Baseball's Better with a Beard
This week's "Beard" goes to Baltimore Orioles own Nick Markakis. I have to admit this is a car wreck beard. I think it is horrible because Markakis chose not to commit to the full beard with no mustache or the goatee. It is kind of an in between mess but I can't stop myself from looking at it. He totally had to start the outside of the beard to trim down to a goatee got distracted and nicked his mustache. That is the only explanation I can come up with.
On another "Beard" note I have to take a minute to rip Roberto Luongo for his playoff performance. And not even his on the ice performance but his on face performance. Seriously, a soul patch? NHL hockey is all about the playoff beard. I 100% attribute Bostons win to Tim Thomas' beard. I mean look at it. It just oozes awesomeness. A SOUL PATCH!
When I first saw that catcher Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez hit twenty years in Major League baseball I couldn't believe that it had been that long. But when you think about it it does make sense. I mean I can't think of a time where Pudge wasn't catching in the bigs. And to hit a twenty spot as a catcher is amazing. Hands down catcher is the most physically demanding position in baseball. My knees still hurt from catching and I only did it till halfway through high school. Pudge is also only 161 hits away from 3000 as well. Hopefully he will get the same kind of coverage that Captain Jeter is getting. Congrats on a long career Pudge.
Look out for the Twins
The Minnesota Twins are quietly clawing their way back into the AL Central race. They are 8-2 in their last 10 games and are about to get some health at the right time. Joe Nathan has been reactivated and has been looking pretty strong in his rehab assignment. And they are reevaluating Jim Thome to come back as well. Add to the fact that Joe Mauer is back the Twins can make some real noise right before the All-Star break and have serious momentum going in to the second half. Keep an eye on them.

Hopefully only that they threw out an opening pitch for a major league team. If you missed it John Wall threw, if you want to call it that, out a first pitch and landed it about 50 feet short of home plate. If you are going to throw out a first pitch always sail it high. Looks way better and you can be just blame it on being amped up. Dirk is throwing out a first pitch for the Texas Rangers this coming week as a part of the "I won a championship" rounds. Lets just pray he doesn't skip it too bad. I personally want to see him do his patented turn around one footed fade away nothing but mitt.Look out Ricky Henderson. That's right. Big Papi is coming for you. David Ortiz stole the most awkward base I have ever seen. It wasn't enough that the last person on Boston you'd expect to swipe a bag did but he did it with a monster jump (pitcher still had the ball when he took off) and he stopped half way and still didn't get thrown out. Seriously how does no one scream "STEP OFF" in this situation? I don't know who should be more ashamed the pitcher or the catcher. If David Ortiz ever steals off you just retire. Side note: who ever runs the MLB video advertising should be fired. At the beginning of the Ortiz video was a Nair commercial. Cause when I watch baseball videos I am totally thinking of how to get rid of my hairy legs.
