Food Porn: The Scottish Egg
I love breakfast. Unfortunately I don't always wake up early enough to enjoy it. Thats why I REALLY love places that do breakfast 24/7. The scottish egg from Metropolitan Coffeehouse and Wine Bar in Federal Hill is not only one of my favorite breakfast inspired food finds of all time but also one of the best things I've ever ate. Period.

Metro is a cool spot, somewhat off the beaten path from the cluster of Miller Lite filled bars that get packed on the weekends in Fed Hill. What sets Metro apart is a couple things #1 They operate as a coffee house in the mornings and then switch to a bar #2 Their extensive beer menu is one of the best in the area.
What I mainly come to Metro for, though, is a little something called a Scottish Egg. When I first saw Scottish Egg on the menu I didn't know what to expect. I just knew I wanted it. Simply put it's the delicious taste of breakfast in a round, ball shape. They take a hard boiled egg, wrap it in a sausage meat mixture, and deep fry it. I have dreams about this damn thing. It's just the perfect dish. The egg comes out nice and warm and with the sausage flavor you are constantly reminded about how breakfast is the best meal of the day. It's served with a small salad (never touch it) and a vinaigrette dressing that tastes amazing when you dip your egg into it. Finally, a nice craft beer only enhances the experience. May I recommend a Loose Cannon by Heavy Seas.
I recommend trying a Scottish Egg if you ever see it on a menu, especially if you're ever at Metropolitan. It's a great appetizer but I have to warn you; other people at your table are going to try to steal a bite and it's really going to piss you off. Save yourself the hassle and order two of them. You'll thank me.
