Nov. 4 - A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas
It's not exactly the kind of thing that wins awards, but if you're a fan of the stoner comedy series featuring Kal Penn, John Cho and Neil Patrick Harris, you know you'll be in the ticket line, munchies in hand.
Nov. 9 - J. Edgar
Clint Eastwood gives the biopic a shot when he directs Leonardo DiCaprio in his portrayal of America's most enigmatic public official, FBI founder J. Edgar Hoover. I'm not going to lie, this movie looks all over the place based on the trailer, but Eastwood and DiCaprio have earned the ticket buy based on their previous work.
Nov. 18 - The Descendants (right)
When your better half tries to drag you to see the latest installment of the Twilight saga, Breaking Dawn, offer up this compromise. George Clooney's latest is directed by Alexander Payne (Election, About Schmidt, Sideways) and tells the story of a man who is coping with life and his two daughters following the passing of his wife. And then he finds out she was cheating on him. It's got heart, humor and an A-list cast, and it'll be a front-runner at this year's Oscars.
Nov. 23 - The Muppets
If you don't like the Muppets, then you should just find a hole to crawl under. Jason Segel has always been vocal about his love of Jim Henson's creation, and now he gets to shepherd the gang back to the big screen.
Nov. 1: Florence & The Machine - Ceremonials (indie pop); Justin Bieber - Under the Mistletoe (holiday, pop, horribleness); Megadeth - Th1rt3en (metal); Miranda Lambert - Four the Record (country); Wale - Ambition (hip-hop)
Nov. 15: Childish Gambino - Camp (brilliant hip-hop, at right); Drake - Take Care (hip-hop, for real this time); Los Campesinos! - Hello Sadness (indie pop); R.E.M. - Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage: 1982-2011 (rock)
Nov. 21: Daughtry - Break the Spell (country-rock); Mary J. Blige - My Life II...The Journey Continues (Act 1) (R&B); Nickelback - Here & Now (rock? Worst music ever?); Rihanna - Talk That Talk (R&B, hip-hop, sexiness)
Nov. 22: Common - The Dream, The Believer (hip-hop)
Season 7 premieres Thursday, Nov. 3 on Fox
If you watch this show, you probably like NCIS and CSI, but wish they were a little funnier. And had David Boreanaz and Zooey Deschanel's sister. You probably also enjoy The Hunger Games series and re-runs of Law & Order (but not SVU because it's too graphic). </generalizations>
Hell On Wheels
Series premiere Sunday, Nov. 6 on AMC
AMC's newest dramatic offering centers on the construction of the Union Pacific Railroad during the Reconstruction Era. Sound like a snoozefest? Well, it won't be. Revenge, racial tension and land rights propel this period drama. My guess is that if you liked HBO's Deadwood and Paul Thomas Anderson's There Will Be Blood, you'll like Hell On Wheels.
Nov. 11: Veterans Day - Honor the men and women who have kept and continue to keep America safe and awesome. Also, check out North Carolina play Michigan State on a friggin aircraft carrier in the 2011 Carrier Classic. More info here.
Nov. 19: UFC 139 - Live from San Jose, featuring Silva vs. Le and Faber vs. Bowles. The main event is Rua vs. Henderson.
Nov. 24: Thanksgiving – Eat lots of food, watch football, drink beer and then fall asleep. Pepper in some family arguments just to keep things interesting.
Nov. 25: Black Friday - Get all your Christmas shopping done in one day, and for cheap. All you have to do is push and shove through hundreds of stay-at-home moms and grandmothers in Rascals. Godspeed, you Kings of Thrift.
