Baltimore Orioles right-hander Jason Hammel will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee and is expected to be out for at least 3-4 weeks.

Baltimore placed Hammel on the 15-day disabled list Sunday. He says he will have the operation Monday in Baltimore.

Hammel (8-2, 3.54 ERA) leads Baltimore in wins and strikeouts (106). His knee has been bothering him since May, but the injury became more serious Friday night when he was forced to leave a game against Detroit after throwing a pitch in the fourth inning. (ESPN)

The 2nd half just started and now the O's will be without their best starting pitcher for about a month. There is no doubt the team needs to make a move immediately for another starter. Ryan Dempster, Matt Garza, Zack Greinke, I don't care. Someone other than brining out Matusz and Arrieta. PLEASE! This team is in 2nd place and is in playoff contention for the first time in over a decade. Don't waste this opportunity because you're scared to trade some prospect who probably won't develop in the first place.
