Orioles Sign 1st Rounder Dylan Bundy
The Orioles expected their negotiations with Dylan Bundy to go right down to Monday night's midnight deadline for signing 2011 draft picks.
There were some anxious moments, but the Orioles agreed to terms with the fourth overall pick about five minutes before the deadline on a five-year major league contract, starting in 2012, that includes a $4 million signing bonus. (Baltimore Sun)
Great signing for the Orioles since Bundy is said to have the most upside of all the high school pitchers in this year's draft. Hopefully the Orioles give him time to develop. Knowing them they'll probably call him up in a couple weeks to start against the Yankees in the Bronx and he'll be scarred for life. Bundy only turns 19 years old this year so even if the team keeps him in the minors for two years he'll barely be able to legally drink when he makes his debut. Bundy often hits 100 MPH on the radar gun and he has been praised for his work ethic on and off the field. In his senior season he was 11-0 with a 0.20 ERA (yes you read that correctly).
I've also been told that athletes run in Dylan Bundy's family. Besides having an older brother that plays in the Orioles minor league system supposedly his dad scored four touchdowns in one game for Polk High.
