Orioles Trade Guthrie To Rockies
The Orioles have traded the club's most accomplished starter, right-hander Jeremy Guthrie, to the Colorado Rockies.
Guthrie tweeted Monday morning: " 'Toto, I have a feeling we're not in Baltimore anymore.' Just found out I was traded to @Rockies," confirming The Baltimore Sun's report that a deal was near.
The Orioles will receive two players from the Rockies, believed to be pitchers Jason Hammel and Matt Lindstrom, according to industry sources.
Guthrie, 32, has spent the past five seasons with the Orioles, has started Opening Day three times and was again expected to pitch the club’s opener April 6. (Baltimore Sun)
Wow trading your potential Opening Day starter weeks before spring training starts sounds like another chapter in the #OriolesTragic saga. On the other hand...good riddance!! Guthrie seems like an awesome guy but HE HAD 48 LOSSES OVER THE LAST THREE SEASON!!!!! Don't give the excuse that the O's offense is to blame. It's true Guthrie never got much run support in Baltimore but to be fair he never really pitched that well either.
The other reasons I kinda like this move is Guthrie is 32 years old and about to hit free agency. The Orioles are a rebuilding team and now can use spring training to find out which five of their young pitchers are ready for the rotation and who would benefit from more time in Triple A. See ya Jeremy. Baltimore loved you and you deserve to play for a contender. Orioles didn't get much in return but Matt Lindstrom could be a potential closer if/when Gregg struggles. It seems the Orioles are destined for a seventh straight 90+ loss season. Sigh. Why can't Steve Bisciotti buy the Orioles??
