Ravens Promote Eric DeCosta to Assistant GM

Eric DeCosta has been promoted from director of player personnel to Assistant General Manager, the Ravens announced in a statement on Thursday. DeCosta, who has worked for the Ravens since 1996, has resisted overtures from other teams to remain as Newsome’s right hand in Baltimore. Some of that may be prudence — Phil Savage, George Kokinis and James Harris all left the Ravens and lost their new jobs — but it has positioned him to be the next man in charge of the Ravens when and if Newsome decides to take on other challenges. Great move by the Ravens to lock up Ozzie's eventual replacement. DeCosta has a big reason for the Ravens success over the last decade and he deserves a bigger spot with the team. Luckily he hasn't left the organization to take a GM spot with some struggling franchise like so many of his predecessors did. I bet if they could do it all over they would have stayed in Baltimore and remained Newsome's right hand man. Congrats to DeCosta and hope he one day gets to sit in the big chair after Ozzie rides out into the sunset.
