UFC 126 Preview

After Sunday when the Packers take down the Steelers and their Craigslist Rapist quarterback, there possibly could not be pro football again for a year or two which means no more K-Dash Fantasy Awards. So now I'll be giving my UFC PPV previews and couldn't have picked a better lineup than UFC 126 tomorrow in Vegas. The top 3 fights could all be main events. I included each fighter's record and the betting odds for their fight. (Via Sportsbook.com) If you don't know what the odds mean, you should be ashamed of yourself and the higher the negative number then the bigger favorite is. UFC President Dana White also gives out three bonus checks for the fight, knockout and submission of the night which I will predict.
MAIN EVENT – UFC MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
UFC MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION Anderson “The Spider” Silva (23-4, 15 TKO’s, 5 submissions) -280
Vs
CHALLENGER Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort (19-8, 13 TKO’s, 2 submissions) +220
The Phenom can thank Chael Sonnen for getting caught with steroids, but Sonnen never talked about Lance Armstrong on Jim Rome, for getting this UFC title shot. Sonnen was actually 2 minutes away from beating The Spider for the belt in August until he submitted Sonnen with a Triangle Choke. Except for a quick beat down of another fighter on this card, Forrest Griffin, 4 of The Spider's last 5 fights haven't been that spectacular. Alot of that can be attributed to the cowardice of his opponents who just "layed and prayed" the whole fight such as Demian Maia and Thales Laites.
This fight should be non-stop action. The Phenom doesn't mess around in the ring, check out this knockout of Matt "The Law" Lindland. We will finally see someone come after The Spider and should be a great display of striking from both. Having said that, Sonnen's wrestling and ability to "ground and pound" The Spider is probably the best way to beat the champ. Wrestling is something that The Phenom does not have, and he is also coming off a 16 month hiatus since his last fight due to injury.
Prediction: Anderson Silva retains his belt, and keeps his Undertaker Wrestlemania-esque 12 wins without a loss in the UFC streak alive, with a 2nd round TKO. Knockout of the Night Bonus Winner.
Main Card Fights
Forrest Griffin (17-6, 3 TKO’s, 7 submissions) +135
Vs
Rich “Ace” Franklin (28-5, 15 TKO’s, 10 submissions) -165
Forrest Griffin (17-6, 3 TKO’s, 7 submissions) +135
Vs
Rich “Ace” Franklin (28-5, 15 TKO’s, 10 submissions) -165
Another fight that could be a possible main event features two fighters who were both on the Ultimate Fighter 1 Finale. Forrest Griffin beat Stephan Bonner to become the first Ultimate Fighter winner in a match that brought the UFC into the spotlight. Rich Franklin defeated UFC legend Ken Shamrock in a big upset that night, and eventually became UFC Middleweight Champion. Ironically, Franklin lost the belt to Anderson Silva in October 2006 and Silva has had it ever since. Both Franklin and Griffin should look to keep the fight standing where Griffin has a slight edge due to his leg kicking ability. Griffin is also coming off a long hiatus like Vitor Belfort, his last fight was a split decision win over "Mr. Jenna Jameson" Tito Ortiz in November 2009.
Prediction: Hoping for a highlight knock out, but have a feeling it is going to be a split decision victory for Griffin.
Jon “Bones” Jones (11-1, 7 TKO’s, 2 submissions) -275
Vs
Ryan “Darth” Bader (12-0, 5 TKO’s, 3 submissions) +215
Vs
Ryan “Darth” Bader (12-0, 5 TKO’s, 3 submissions) +215
THIS FIGHT right here is your fight of the night. Jonny Bones Jones is being hailed as the next Ken Griffey Jr. circa 1989. He does some crazy ass shit in the ring and should be undefeated but his only "loss" was a DQ because of illegal downward elbows to Matt Hammil. Darth Bader not only has a bad ass nickname, but he was the winner of the Ultimate Fighter season 8 and is still undefeated. Bader and Jones both come from solid wrestling backgrounds, and Bader has pretty good power in his punches but is getting overshadowed by everyone's man crushes on Jones. An insane fact about Jones is that he has the longest reach in UFC history at 84 inches and will have a 10 inch reach advantage over Bader. No matter who wins, I am pretty confidant we will see a rematch sometime in the next couple years between these guys.
Prediction: Jon Jones wins by TKO in the 3rd round. Fight Of The Night Bonus Winner
Jake Ellenberger (22-5, 14 TKO’s, 5 submissions) -260
Vs
Carlos Eduardo "Ta Danado" Rocha (9-0, 1 TKO, 8 submissions) +200
Vs
Carlos Eduardo "Ta Danado" Rocha (9-0, 1 TKO, 8 submissions) +200
Ellenberger is a former champion in the weak Fox Sports wanna-be UFC league known as the IFL, but comes in with two impressive wins in the UFC and a loss to a former WEC champion Carlos Condit. Ta Danado sounds like a soccer player in Spain's La Liga but is a submission machine and I vaguely remember his knee bar submission victory over Kris McCray at UFC 122. Newcastles are a hell of a beer. This one could be over quick, or be a good time to make a lap around the bar if you aren't watching the PPV at home.
Prediction: Jake Ellenberger wins by TKO in the second round.
Miguel Torres (38-3, 9 TKO’s, 23 submissions) – 500
Vs
Antonio Banuelos (18-6, 7 TKO’s, 1 submission) +300
Vs
Antonio Banuelos (18-6, 7 TKO’s, 1 submission) +300
Miguel Torres is the biggest favorite on the night, and the former WEC Bantamweight Champion. Antonio Banuelos has the biggest ghetto prison looking fu-manchu beard you'll ever see. Torres was once considered unbeatable in his weight class, and went undefeated between 2004 and 2009. After back to back losses, Torres won his last fight at WEC 51 with a Rear Naked Choke submission win over Charlie (Don't call me the cancer patient Villanueva) Valencia. Banuelos is a tough guy, but he will be outclassed by Torres in this one.
Prediction: Miguel Torres wins by submission in the 2nd round via the power of his mullet. Submission of the Night Bonus Winner.
Prelim Fights on SPIKE TV
Chad “Money” Mendes (9-0, 2 TKO’s, 2 submissions) -325
Vs
Michiro Omigawa (12-8-1, 4 TKO’s, 2 submissions) +250
Chad “Money” Mendes (9-0, 2 TKO’s, 2 submissions) -325
Vs
Michiro Omigawa (12-8-1, 4 TKO’s, 2 submissions) +250
Gonna go jackrabbit style BANG BANG BANG through the prelim fights. Money Mendes rolls with Urijah Faber and his Sacramento crew. Omigawa is asian.
Prediction: Money Mendes wins by unanimous decision due to the power of his trainer Master Thong, seen here catching a opossum with his bare hands with a little help from a grocery bag.
Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone (13-3, 11 submissions) -325
Vs
Paul “Tellys” Kelly (11-3, 5 TKO’s, 3 submissions) +250
Vs
Paul “Tellys” Kelly (11-3, 5 TKO’s, 3 submissions) +250
Cowboy will wear a cowboy ring to the hat, and was in Sherdog.com's Fight of the Year winner in 2009 which he lost to Ben Henderson for the WEC Light Heavyweight Championship. Kelly has the lamest nickname ever and is British.
Prediction: Cerrone wins by submission in the 2nd round.
